Hope Matters

I know, I know: The last thing the world needs right now is yet another blog.  The Digital Age has created a never ending mistral of information that can make people irritable and disoriented if not just plain crazy. 

 Yet here I am, writer/mother/grandmother, starting a blog!!  I’m not crazy though many who know me consider me at least slightly eccentric.  I am calling my blog Hope Matters because hope (Emily Dickinson’s “thing with feathers”) is what I started out with when I was born – an actual ‘held back’ birth – in northern Maine in the middle of the 20th Century.  It’s what I’ve kept with me in abundance ever since - no matter what hardships and disappointments have come my way.  Continue with my first introductory post, “Hope Matters”

R.I.P. Lee Maracle.

One of my favorite things is discovering new writers – not necessarily ‘new’ as in ‘emerging’ but new as in I haven’t heard of them before, and they’re a writer I’d really like to read. The only exception to this is when I learn about them reading their obituary. Pleasure then curdles into dismay and a sense of loss.

Baby Hatch

In Coney Barrett’s view, the safe haven laws and the baby hatches supporting them, alleviate the need for legalized abortion because they allow mother to rid herself of an unwanted infant and then go on with her life unburdened. All she has to do is locate the nearest baby hatch, lift the lid and drop the swaddled newborn in, much like a piece of mail into an old fashioned mailbox. No fuss. No muss.
